City Council Makes Appointments to Planning Commission, General Plan Task Force
One new face will appear on the Emeryville Planning Commission and two familiar ones will return for another four-year hitch, thanks to a series of appointments by the City Council.
The Council at its July 15th meeting appointed design engineer John Scheuerman to fill the remainder of Angela Baranco-Mason’s Planning Commission term which expires June 30, 2010. Scheuerman, a 15-year Emeryville resident and design engineer for Siemens Building Technologies said in an e-mail that his experience on the city’s General Plan Update Steering Committee prompted him to apply for the appointment.
“My work on the (committee) has been very educational and rewarding. As we move closer to the completion of the general plan update, we are seeing the fruits of our labor. The update creates a very exciting vision for Emeryville. My role as a planning commissioner will enable me to take a very active role in carrying this vision forward to create a more livable city,” the Wisconsin native wrote.
Reappointed to four year terms were Lawrence (Buzz) Cardoza and Gail Donaldson.
All the Commission appointments were approved on a series of 4-1 votes with Councilmember John Fricke dissenting. Fricke, who gave no reason for his dissent during the meeting, said in a subsequent e-mail that in general he votes for people who he believes share his policy goals for Emeryville.
Robin Orden was unanimously appointed to the General Plan and Update Steering Committee. Orden, a long-time Emeryville resident, works for the City of Berkeley as a Senior Management Analyst.
